Should I upgrade or enhance my existing network with new or refurbished equipment?

To answer this question, we suggest you consider several specific questions:

* Is the equipment required available on the after-market, or is it so new that it can only be acquired through the manufacturer? 

    This is really a life-cycle question. In today's environment of failed eCommerce businesses, there is an abundance of leading-edge equipment available. However, in a normal growth economy, you can expect to either buy new or wait the 6 to 12 months for equipment to hit the after-market.
     

    * Can the desired equipment be acquired in a timely manner?

    First, we have to make a distinction between the physical longevity of network equipment in relation to its useful life for a particular application. A U.S. military study determined that 156 hours is the time frame within which most network equipment will fail. If the equipment has not failed within 156 hours, then it should continue to function for that particular application as long as required.
